This course overviews the changes in PASC 2011 and an article-by-article review of how some of those changes affect our business practices.

PASC April Luncheon

Join us on Wednesday, April 16th at the Calgary Petroleum Club for a presentation by Shawn Hendry, Sunera and Tara Weiss as they present on "Modeling, Risk Controls, COSO".

Shawn and Tara will introduce the new COSO 2013 Framework that will replace the existing 1992 Framework on December 15, 2014. The program will provide a snapshot of "what's new" in the updated framework, update current practice considerations for adopting the new framework, and highlight key concepts and principles of the updated guidance that impact Petroleum Accountants.  The updated framework key principles will be discussed in terms of practical considerations for transitioning to the updated framework.

Biographies:

Shawn Hendry

Shawn is the Managing Partner of Sunera's Calgary practice joining the firm in early 2006.  Shawn is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and Certified in the Governance of Enterprise Information Technology (CGEIT) with over 18 years of experience in public practice and in industry.  Shawn has assisted many organizations with Sunera in discharging their governance initiatives and with Internal Audit practices.   Shawn has significant experience with Oil & Gas, Mining, Government and other industries leading numerous initiatives.  Shawn was previously the Director of Audit & Risk Assessment for CanWest Global Communications.  He was responsible for developing and building the Internal Audit and Risk function and implementing an ERM framework across the organization.  Further, following CanWest Global, but prior to joining Sunera, Shawn was a Senior Manager in KPMG’s Risk Advisory Services practice, where he developed and led client risk management and Internal Audit related projects.  Earlier in his career prior to joining CanWest, Shawn initiated the Canadian Audit Department for UtiliCorp Networks Canada and started his career with Arthur Anderson for six years working both in the Audit & Assurance and Advisory practices. 

Tara Weiss

Tara Weiss is a Director with Sunera and is a Certified General Accountant (CGA) devoted to a career of process and performance audits, vendor/contract audits, Sarbanes-Oxley related projects, and business process reviews. Before starting off her career, Tara had received an undergraduate degree from the University of Regina. Further to receiving her degree, she obtained her CAPPA Diploma from the Mount Royal University.

Prior to joining Sunera as a Director in October 2013, Tara had spent 5 years with PwC – Public Accounting and Advisory in Calgary. She was hired as Senior Associate and had been promoted to Manager during her tenure.  She was staffed on various Sarbanes-Oxley, performance audit, vendor audit and internal audit engagements for a range of government, oil & gas, and energy clients. Earlier in her career, Tara was a Capital Markets Analyst with Manitoba Telecom Services, a Joint Venture Accountant with Anadarko Canada Corporation, and a Compliance Analyst with PenGrowth Energy Trust.
